The Head of Government, Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, held talks on Monday, January 26, 2026 in Rabat with his Senegalese counterpart, Mr. Ousmane Sonko, who is on a working visit to Morocco as part of the proceedings of the 15th session of the High Joint Commission for the Moroccan-Senegalese Partnership. The meeting took place in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Republic of Senegal, Mr. Hassan Ennassiri.
During the discussions, both sides reaffirmed the commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, as well as their continued efforts to elevate bilateral cooperation to multidimensional levels, in line with the aspirations of the leaders of both countries, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Both parties also stressed that Morocco and Senegal will remain faithful to the spirit of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual respect they have upheld in service of the African continent. They further commended the role of the Moroccan community in Senegal and the Senegalese community in Morocco in enriching the distinguished partnership between the two nations.
The Head of Government praised the strong human, religious, and economic ties binding the two countries, notably reflected in the eight visits paid by His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, to Senegal. He also highlighted the pivotal role played by the Republic of Senegal in the Royal Initiatives aimed at promoting development in Africa, particularly the Royal Initiative to enhance Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the significant progress achieved in ministerial exchanges, the strengthening of the legal framework governing bilateral cooperation, as well as the consolidation of economic partnership and investments since Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye assumed the presidency of the Republic of Senegal.
The convening of the 15th session of the High Joint Commission for the Moroccan-Senegalese Partnership represents a valuable opportunity to enhance sectoral cooperation between the two countries through the implementation of structuring projects in agriculture, energy, trade, digital economy, and other fields.
