KSrelief Holds an Exhibition on the Sidelines of Humanitarian Week at UN Headquarters in New York
King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) is holding an exhibition from 7 to 15 December 2023 on the sidelines of Humanitarian Week at United Nations headquarters in New York City.
The exhibition was officially opened by Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al Wasel. Other high level attendees included the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, Mr. David Gressly, the Permanent Representative of Yemen to the UN, Mr. Abdullah Al Saadi, KSrelief’s Assistant Supervisor General of for Planning and Development, Dr. Aqeel Al Ghamdi, the Head of KSrelief’s Health and Environmental Aid Department, Dr. Abdullah Al Moallem, and KSrelief’s
Media and Public Relations Department Director, Mr. Shalhoub Al Shalhoub.
In his remarks to the group, Dr. Al Wasel welcomed the visitors to KSrelief’s exhibition, which he said highlighted the center’s remarkable achievements through a visual overview of KSrelief’s global humanitarian work. Dr. Al Wasel expressed his admiration for the Kingdom’s noble humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of those in need through its support for global aid and relief programs with its many humanitarian partners.
Mr. David Gressly praised the strong strategic partnership between the Kingdom, represented by KSrelief, and UN agencies which has provided extensive support and aid to the people of Yemen during the ongoing humanitarian challenges there.
Mr. Al Saadi remarked on the life-saving efforts KSrelief’s MASAM demining team has made to eliminate the dangers of mines and explosive devices to Yemeni civilians. Among program goals, he said, was to help enable people to move more freely around the country, as well as to improve the transport and delivery of humanitarian goods and services across Yemen.
Dr, Al Moallem from KSrelief’s Health and Environmental Aid Department noted KSrelief’s crucial role in implementing the “MASAM” demining program, which has led to the removal of more than 424,500 landmines across Yemen, saving and improving the lives of thousands of innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. Additionally, KSrelief has implemented its Artificial Limbs Programs in Yemen and Syria to provide free treatment and services to amputees. KSrelief’s artificial limbs centers provide patients with high-quality prosthetic limbs and also trains local staff on prosthetics manufacturing, maintenance and patient support. The program focuses on building the capacities of healthcare institutions to ensure the localization and sustainability of services, and has helped more than 26,000 patients in Yemen and Syria to live full lives and become productive members of society.
The KSrelief exhibition supervisor, Mr. Shalhoub Al Shalhoub, explained that the exhibition included interactive visual media screens showing the center’s many relief and humanitarian programs and projects. He added that, to date, KSrelief has implemented 2,670 projects across all humanitarian sectors in 95 countries at a cost of more than USD 6 billion.
Mr. Al Shalhoub added that the exhibition also covered the wide range of support KSrelief has given to the Yemeni people – 862 projects at a cost of more than USD 4 billion. “The KSrelief exhibition,” he said, “also highlights our volunteer medical programs, which now number over 534 programs in 38 countries. So far, more than 140,000 surgical procedures have been performed and more than 1.2 million people have benefitted from the program. The exhibition also showcases the Saudi Aid Platform, which serves as a technologically advanced national interface for registering and documenting all humanitarian, developmental, and charitable assistance provided by the Kingdom to people, countries, and organizations throughout its history.”
