Memorandum of Understanding to produce a documentary film about “The Mejhoul, the Pearl of Dates” on the sidelines of the International Dates Forum in Erfoud, 2024.

The General Secretariat of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation signed a Memorandum of Understanding to produce a documentary film about “The Mejhoul, the Pearl of Dates” with Rahab Prod Film Production Company, in the Kingdom of Morocco, in the presence of Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Award’s Secretary General, and Mr. Abdul Wahid Al-Mahtani, General Manager of the production company. This took place on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, within the UAE Pavilion on the sidelines of the activities of the International Dates Forum in Erfoud, Kingdom of Morocco, in its thirteenth session, 2024.
On this occasion, Dr. Zaid praised the importance of this film as it is the first of its kind to document 100 years of the journey of the Mejhoul date variety, that started from the Tafilalt region in the Kingdom of Morocco, in 1927, to the United States of America, from where the variety was propagated and redistributed to all parts of the world. It also shed light on the scientific dimension of the Mejhoul variety (the latest scientific research and studies), by conducting an interview with experts and specialists in the Mejhoul variety in the world.
The Award’s Secretary General also added that this film will highlight the efforts made by the General Secretariat of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, from a scientific perspective in proving the true origin of the Mejhoul variety and correcting its name. It will also highlight the efforts of the parties concerned with the Mejhoul variety, whether in the Kingdom of Morocco or the rest of the world, and emphasize the identity of the Mejhoul variety and its scientific name.
From his side, Mr. Abdul Wahid Al-Mahtani, General Manager of Rehab Broad Company, pointed out that we have a golden opportunity to produce a documentary film about the Mejhoul variety of Moroccan origins to introduce the world to the importance of this variety and its added value in the world of production, manufacturing and export of luxury dates around the world. He added that our film “Mejhoul, the Pearl of Dates” will have a chance to compete for awards at international film festivals, as we will produce the film with the highest international specifications.
